Mental Health Month   12/11/2019

On Wednesday 7th November De la Salle had the privilege of welcoming Dublin Senior Footballer Philly McMahon to speak to Senior Cycle students. It’s fair to say staff and students alike were enamoured with Philly’s life story and his simple, yet effective advice on how to deal with adversities. Philly spoke about growing up in a poverty stricken Ballymun and acknowledged that one’s environment has the ability to influence one’s life but reinforced the message that we all have the power to make the right choices and achieve our goals despite disadvantages. He spoke about the importance of resilience, about acknowledging that problems and strife are part of life, about accepting that being positive isn’t always possible and realising that when you can be positive and surround yourself with positivity, you should. Thanks to all the students who participated in the Q&A section of the talk. A special thanks to the Transition Year students Daniel Cotter, Adam O Donovan and Jack Lucey for organising the talk.
